Poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulphonate (PEDOT:PSS) is the most widely used hole transporting layer (HTL) in planar perovskite solar cells, which shows excellent optical, electrical properties and good compatibility with low temperature, solution and flexible processing. Nevertheless, the acidic and hygroscopic property of PEDOT:PSS restricts its film conductivity and leads to the degradation of device stability. Herein, for the first time, we introduce the unprecedentedly zero-dimensional dopant of carbon nano-onions (CNOs) and the functionalized oxidized carbon nano-onions (ox-CNOs) to modify the PEDOT:PSS HTL. Besides the merits of high conductivity and suitable energy level, the CNOs and ox-CNOs modified PEDOT:PSS HTLs could provide a superior perovskite crystalline film with large-scale grains and orderly grain boundaries exhibiting a high surface tension with the hydrophobic property, resulting in a significant enhancement of PCE from 11.07% to 15.26%. Moreover, by suppressing the corrosion effect of PEDOT:PSS on ITO electrode, a dramatic improvement in the device stability has also been obtained.

In the past two decades, the vast classes of coordination polymers (CPs) and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have received deep attention in both the academic and industrial realms, as they can possess different functional properties of economic, technological and/or environmental interest, such as luminescence, electric conductivity, magnetism, catalytic activity, gas storage or separation, drug delivery – to mention only a few. Within this vast landscape, this review proposes a survey on those transition metal containing CPs and MOFs built up with poly(pyrazole)- and poly(pyrazolate)-based ligands, in which up to three N-donor heterocyclic rings are organized on rigid or flexible cores. The overview has been restricted to the most recurrent transition metals, namely copper, zinc, cobalt, nickel, cadmium, silver and iron. For each material, mentioning of the synthetic method(s) yielding to its isolation is complemented by a description of its thermal behaviour, of the main structural aspects and, whenever investigated, of its functional properties.

The title compounds [Et4N]2[MS4Cu4(SCN)4(2-pic)4] (M = W l, Mo 2) have been synthesized by the reaction of (Et4N)2MS4, Cu(SCN) and 2-picoline (2-pic, 2-methylpyridine). Single crystal X-ray diffraction data show that the anion clusters [MS4Cu4(SCN)4(2-pic)4]2 have the planar ‘open’ structure with four Cu atoms in three kinds of coordination modes. Nonlinear optical properties of these two clusters are investigated with a 8 ns pulsed laser at 532 nm. The two clusters exhibit large optical limiting performance, with limiting threshold values of 0.3 J cm2 for 1, 0.5 J cm2 for 2, and self-defocusing effects, effective nonlinear refractive index /;2 = -6.84 x 1012 esu (esu = 7.162 x 10 m5 v2) 1 and 2 = -8.48 x 1012 esu 2 respectively. Both compounds show reverse saturable absorption: a2 = 3.1 x l(T6 m W1 for 1 and a2 = 3.2 x 106 m W’ for 2 in 6.98 x 104 mol dm3 and 7.44 x 10 mol dm3 DMF solution respectively. The corresponding effective NLO susceptibilities %m are 6.5 x 108 esu 1 and 8.9 x 108 esu 2 while the corresponding hyperpolarizabilities (y(I) = 9.42 x 1032 esu and ym = 1.29 x 1031 esu) are also reported. Copper complexes of corroles have recently been a subject of keen interest due to their ligand non-innocent character and unique redox properties. Here we investigated bis-copper complex of a triply-linked corrole dimer that serves as a pair of divalent metal ligands but can be reduced to a pair of trivalent metal ligands. Reaction of triply-linked corrole dimer 2 with Cu(acac)2 (acac=acetylacetonate) gave bis-copper(II) complex 2Cu as a highly planar molecule with a mean-plane deviation value of 0.020 A, where the two copper ions were revealed to be divalent by ESR, SQUID, and XPS methods. Oxidation of 2Cu with two equivalents of AgBF4 gave complex 3Cu, which was characterized as a bis-copper(II) complex of a dicationic triply-linked corrole dimer not as the corresponding bis-copper(III) complex. In accord with this assignment, the structural parameters around the copper ions were revealed to be quite similar for 2Cu and 3Cu. Importantly, the magnetic spin?spin interaction differs depending on the redox-state of the ligand, being weak ferromagnetic in 2Cu and antiferromagnetic in 3Cu.

A total of five new CuSCN-L compounds with alkyl sulfide ligands, L = methyl sulfide (Me2S), ethyl sulfide (Et2S), isopropyl sulfide (Pri2S) or tetrahydrothiophene (THT) have been prepared and characterized. X-ray crystal structures for four of the compounds were obtained. Two compounds were collected from solutions of CuSCN in Me2S: {[Cu(SCN)(Me2S)2]}n (1a) in the form of colorless blocks and (CuSCN)(Me2S) (1b) as a white powder. Neat mixtures of CuSCN in the other alkyl sulfide ligands yielded only one product each: {[Cu(SCN)(Et2S)]}n (2); {[Cu(SCN)(Pri2S)]}n (3); and {[Cu(SCN)(THT)2]}n (4). Crystals of 2 and 4 underwent destructive phase changes at lower temperatures. Two networks types were observed: 1:2 decorated 1-D chains (1a and 4) and 1:2 decorated 1-D ladders (2 and 3). Further network formation through bridging of the organic sulfide ligands was not observed.

The interaction of 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde with N-tosyl-1,2-diaminobenzene leads to the isolation of two different products, {3-[ethoxy(2-pyridyl)methyl]-1-[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-2-(2-pyridyl)-2,3- dihydro-1H-benzo[d]imidazole}, L1, and {1-[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-2-(2-pyridyl)-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzo[d] imidazole}, L2, but not to the expected Schiff base 1-[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonamido]-2-[(2-pyridylmethylene)amino]benzene, HL3. Two kinds of complexes, containing the potentially tridentate and monoanionic [L3]- as a ligand, were obtained by different routes. ML3(p-Tos)(H2O)n complexes (p-TosH = p-toluenesulfonic acid; M = Co, Cu, Zn; n = 1-3) have been isolated by electrolysis of a solution phase composed of L1 and p-toluenesulfonic acid, using metal plates as the anode. Metal complexes of composition ML32(H2O)n (M = Mn, Co, Cu, Zn; n = 0-2) were obtained by template synthesis from M(acac)2, 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde and N-tosyl-1,2-diaminobenzene. All these compounds have been characterised by elemental analyses, magnetic measurements, IR, mass spectrometry and, in the case of M = Zn, by 1H NMR spectroscopy. CuL3(p-Tos)(H2O), 1, ZnL3(p-Tos)(H2O), 2, CoL32, 3, CuL32, 4 and ZnL32 · 2CH3CN, 5, were also crystallographically characterised.
