Cu complex catalysts (I; R, R1, R2 = CF3, H, CF3; Me, H, CF3; Me, H, Me; Me, H, Me3C; Ph, H, Ph; Me3C, H, Me3C; CF3, Ph, OEt; etc.) were tested in the oxidation of (PhCH2)2O. Linear relations were found between the rate of product formation and the charge on Cu.
